TIL: Choosing A Mars Landing Spot is Harder Than You Think

Will Mars be home to humankind one day? We tend to imagine a future with huge human colonies already established, so I found it interesting to learn just how much work and planning goes into simply landing there. Getting a rover to Mars, as expert Bethany Ehlmann explains, involves scanning every pixel of the highest-resolution images to pinpoint the best landing site (0:54). With an entire planet to explore, it’s important to get it right!
